Course Description:
One in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults. Many of those who survive, are referred to physical/occupational therapy. This course is designed to identify common fall risk factors as well as fall recovery through floor mobility exercises. Teaching safe self-assessment following a fall as well as safe exercises to improve balance, with the goal of decreasing falls. Real clients/patients sessions are used to demonstrate all activities discussed in a studio/home environment. This user friendly program and exercises can be adopted into any program immediately.
